Brother Cofty left the Marine Corp as a Major (Mustang) after twenty-two years of active service in order to pursue a formal Bible education.  While lecturing on tactics during a cross service assignment with the U.S. Army in the desert of Arizona, Brother Cofty founded and pastored the Huachuca Independent Baptist Church (later Grace Baptist) of Sierra Vista, Arizona.  He pastored in Arizona until transferred to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and later also pastored the Grace Baptist Church of Decatur, Alabama.

Upon leaving the pastorate, Brother Cofty traveled and promoted America's oldest Baptist fellowship as its Executive Director for three years prior to founding SHARPER SWORD MINISTRIES and entering full-time evangelism.  His desire is to always bless, not bomb, blister, or bruise, in the building up of the local church.  The late Dr.'s Monroe Parker and Gilbert Stenholm, both stated, "that to see Dr. Cofty and hear him preach reminded them both of their good friend, Dr. Billy Sunday."

Doctor Cofty is married to the former Lenora Ann Jones of Jacksonville, Florida. They have two sons, Chuck Jr. and Gary, and a daughter Tracy.  Chuck Jr. is a Christian businessman, who owns his own business in Alabama.  He is married to the former Sarah Peeples of Montgomery.  Chuck and Sarah have seven children, Chuck III, Jesse, Caleb, Julianna, Alexandria Grace and twins Daniel and Dylan.  Gary, also a Christian businessman, owns a business in Charlotte.  He is married to the former JoAnn Graves of Illinois.  Gary and JoAnn have four children, Bethany, Gary Jr., Tyler, and Kaitlyn.  Tracy is married to Arthur Blanton of Atlanta, Georgia.  Art and Tracy live in Charlotte where Art is also a Christian businessman with Carolina Home Improvements.  Art and Tracy have four children, Arthur Jr., Rebekah, Andrew, and Katherine.  All children, as well as their mates, have wonderful Christian testimonies and are all serving in independent Baptist Churches.

Doctor Cofty attended several colleges and universities during his long military career.  His secular education was in the field of Behavioral Science.  Brother Cofty is the recipient of a Bachelor of Church Administration degree as well as being honored by the San Francisco Baptist Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Divinity degree.  Brother Cofty preaches and recommends nothing but the King James Bible. He does not simply prefer the King James Bible but believes it to be preserved Word of God for the English speaking people.
